Ambrosino – Designing Saratoga Springs

A lifetime ago, Larry Ambrosino was a partner in one of the largest agencies in the entire capital region. But the early nineties Communication & Design, also known as C&D, came crashing down with a lot of fanfare. It was not long after that when Mr. Ambrosino opened his new company Ambrosino Design, in downtown Saratoga. This was before the days of Palio or any of todays larger agencies that now exist in the Capital Region. C&D was the Palio of that time period.

– I could not find an old logo of C&D, This would be a good spot for it. –

His studio is located on long alley, which mostly houses architects and professional firms. The restored building is not so remarkable or memorable but a mixture between historical, and corporate. It features large black grill work over the windows.

Ambrosino Design is a relatively small organization. They are flexible and talented enough to work for small or large clients. He has very little turnover of employees and they are all good at what they do. Concepting, illustrating, and job management. The firm follows tried and true methods of marketing, and has not really made the transition to electronic media. He is not cutting edge, bleeding edge or even the edge of a scab, he is one of those unheard of design companies that has yet to create a website for themselves.

The firms specialty seems to be a mixture of fine typography and illustration. A fitting example is the SPAC poster below – notice there are silhouettes of performers in the trees.

Ambrosino Design has a special place in Saratoga Springs design community, they bring a touch of Palio sophistication to the local design seen. Old time marketing and knowledge in an increasingly technical world. What I am trying to say is that if you sat in a meeting with them you would probably understand what they are talking about.

Their impact on Saratoga Springs is everywhere, and made themselves a true part of the community. Much of the old established businesses use Ambrosino Design, including the Adirondack Trust, Chamber of Commerce, and some of the larger building and architectural firms in town. He has relationships with some of the most talented people in the regional marketing industry from his days at C&D, and regularly teams up with them for special projects like the one below
