The LA Group is a longtime landscape architectural firm is the heart of Saratoga Springs. It is the backbone of the professional groups that have recreated Long Alley over the past twenty years. They are not architects who build buildings, they design space. Their hands have been involved in some of Saratoga’s Most beautiful spaces over the last few decades.
Did you ever wonder why the sidewalks on Broadway look the way they do? How did we get the large green areas surrounded by granite curbs? This is what the LA Group does.
They are creative and bold in a lot of the things they do. But, it is also their job to take on the city and push their clients needs at all cost. After three decades of success, the process of getting what you want comes in a variety of ways. They that can be pompous, and single minded when pursuing zoning changes, design approvals in the quickest possible manner.
Mike Ingersoll principal and over the last thirty years has guided The LA Group to become land mark company in Saratoga Springs. They have worked many well known projects around town, seen by each of us everyday we travel through the city.
On the residential side of their work is the High Rock Town houses. Now I don’t have any of their site plans so I will just stick in an image of finished projects.
John Witt’s development, Park Alley across from the Skidmore practice fields on Greenfield Avenue, and of course the parking garage on Woodlawn Avenue.
Below are picture from their website of one of the most remarkable rehabilitation projects of the last ten years. Since they created the site plan only they can’t get credited for the design, but they did define how the street, sidewalks and parking were design to support the structure.
This gives you a pretty good background of the LA Group and the work they have done in Saratoga Springs, NY. The organization has played a vital part in the planning of some great Saratoga Project over the last thirty years. They also have extensive work outside of the area, which is probably their most profitable, yet they keep their hand in the local scene, and will probably be remembered for that.
